Loratadine and Aleve

allergy medication, over the counter

is it ok to take loratadine and aleve together?

Is it ok to use loratadine and Aleve® together at the same time?

Loratadine is an allergy medication. It is an antihistamine and it blocks the effect of histamine in the body, which then reduces the symptoms of allergies. It is commonly sold under the brand name Claritin®. Most people tolerate this medication very well, with the most common side effects being headache and drowsiness.

Aleve (active ingredient naproxen) is a Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug (NSAID). It is used to treat pain, inflammation and fever.

There are no major interactions between loratadine and Aleve that have been identified. People that can take them separately should not have any problem using them together. Many people find the addition of an anti-inflammatory medication like Aleve to their allergy medication like loratadine controls symptoms better.

It you are every uncertain about taking medications alone or together, be sure to talk to a healthcare provider.  Your doctor or pharmacist can help you determine if the medications can be safe and effective for you.
