Losartan is available in dosages of 25mg, 50mg or 100mg. It helps lower blood pressure by causing blood vessels to relax. It is most often taken once a day, but may be taken twice per day. It is in the family of medications known as Angiotensin Receptor Blockers and is sold under the Brand Name Cozaar®. You may see it also listed as Losartan Potassium.

Atenolol is used to lower blood pressure and help certain heart conditions. It is sold in the US under the Brand Name Tenormin®. It is from a family of medications known as beta blockers and available doses are 25mg, 50mg and 100mg. It is take once or twice a day.

There have been no major interactions between the medications identified. One should be careful when starting  the two medications together to ensure blood pressure doesn’t drop too low – leading to dizziness. Most people tolerate the combination of the two medications very well. Losartan plus atenolol may be need to control blood pressure when one medication isn’t enough or if the healthcare provider determines both medications could be of benefit to the patient.
