What is the difference between losartan potassium and losartan? Are they the same thing?
They are the same medication. It usually a matter of the computer system and the medication manufacturer. Some pharmacy labels will just print losartan, while others may print the whole name. It is a generic medication and the tablets my also appear different depending on the manufacturer.
I applaud your effort to educate yourself about medications. It is important to know what your medications are for and the potential side effects, being an educated patient can really reduce the chance of problems in the future.
Always contact your pharmacist if you are not sure if your medication is what you expected it to be. If you are at all unsure if it is the correct medication, just take a few moments to verify it.
Please contact me with pharmacy related questions. As always, I hope this information in useful to you.
David, there is no advantage switching to losartan, if the lisinopril is controlling your blood pressure.
I am taking Lisinopril 20mg at present time. Is losartanpotassium better for me to take or should I keep on taking the Lisinopril 20mg?
I haven’t been able to talk to my doctor recently.
Thank you for your answer.
David Tanner
Potassium is sometimes used cautiously with losartan. Your Doctor will monitor the levels of potassium in your body to ensure they don’t get too high.
