Janumet and Ranitidine

Drug Interactions

janumet and ranitidine

Can I take Janumet and ranitidine together? Is there a drug interaction?

Janumet is a combination of two medications sitagliptin and metformin. Both medications help to reduce blood sugar.

Ranitidine is a H2 blocker. The use of ranitidine (and the brand name Zantac) is used to reduce the production of stomach acid.

It is not recommended that you take Janumet and ranitidine. The combination could result in increased levels of the metformin portion of Janument, putting the person at risk for a rare condition call lactic acidosis.

If you experience frequent heart burn and use the medication Janumet, please talk to your healthcare provider about treatment options.
