Not only does is help with allergy symptoms, it also has a sedating effect. It can effectively treat allergy symptoms when there is itching involved. Side effects can include dry mouth, drowsiness, dizziness, impaired speaking ability, nausea and headache. Typical adult doses range from 25mg to 100mg given every four to six hours as needed to control symptoms.

There is not a major interaction between the two medications that has been identified. However, using hydroxyzine and loratadine together can increase the risk of side effects. Both medications have similar side effects, as they act on the same receptors in the body. If a person used both Atarax and Claritin together at the same time they most likely would experience sedation and dry mouth. Other side effects may occur.
