Is there and interaction between hydrocodone and allopurinol?

Hydrocodone is a strong pain reliever. It is often paired with acetaminophen in products like Vicodin, Lorcet and Norco. It does have the potential for abuse and dependence, be certain to only use the medication as prescribed then properly dispose of any remaining tablets. Common side effects include constipation, drowsiness, rash and itching.

Allopurinol is used to reduce the production of uric acid in the body, it is a Xanthine Oxidase Inhibitor. It is typically used  to prevent gout, prevent kidney stones and treat the side effects of certain types of cancer therapies. Most common side effects include rash, diarrhea and nausea. Please contact your healthcare provider if you develop a rash.

There are no major drug interactions identified between hydrocodone and allopurinol. The appear safe to use together, however one should always watch for side effects. Talk to a doctor or pharmacist if you think you may be having side effects or cannot tolerate a certain medication.
