Can I take Gas X and Ranitidine together? Are there any interactions?
Gas X has the active ingredient simethicone. The simethicone works to breakup gas bubbles in the colon. That relives pressure and discomfort associated with gas. The medication is not absorbed into the body and just stays in the intestine. No major interactions or side effects have been identified only a small potential for nausea and diarrhea.
Ranitidine (and the brand name Zantac) is a H2 blocker. Blocking the Histamine 2 receptor reduce the amount of stomach acid produced by the body. Most people tolerate ranitidine without incident. Side effects are generally mild and can include headache, diarrhea, dizziness and fatigue. Long term use has been associated with Vitamin B12 deficiency.
Gas X and ranitidine can be taken together safely. No significant interactions have been identified. The combination can work well for people having heart burn symptoms as well as gas and bloating. Constant digestive symptoms could indicate a serious condition, talk to your doctor if that is the case.
Always check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure which medications you can use safely. Be sure to tell your healthcare provider if you symptoms do not resolve.
