Diphenhydramine 25 mg

allergy medication, over the counter

The most common adult dosage of diphenhydramine is 25 mg.  It is found in many over-the-counter medications from Benadryl to Unisom.  It is used for allergy symptoms, motion sickness, cough and as a sleep aid.

Diphenhydramine is also found in many combination products.  Be sure to read the label to ensure the proper dosing.

Drowsiness it probably the most common side effect in adults, children may have the opposite reaction.  Because of the drowsiness, extreme caution should be used while taking diphenhydramine.  It may even increase the risk of falling in the elderly.

Among the most common oral allergy medications, diphenhydramine 25 mg may be the strongest – but it tends to have the most side effects.  If you need to remain alert, fexofenadine, loratadine or cetirizine may be better options.
