Can I take Amoxicillin and Ibuprofen together? Is there a drug interaction?
Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic. It is used to treat or prevent infection. It should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory medication usually used to treat pain, inflammation and/or fever. It is from a class of medications known as NSAIDS or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is sold under the brand names Motrin® and Advil®.
There is no interaction between the two and ibuprofen and amoxicillin can be safely taken together as long as you can tolerate either alone. Do not take them if you have a penicillin allergy or have had an allergic reaction to ibuprofen. Most over-the-counter cold and pain products can safely be used with amoxicillin.
Always be sure to talk to you doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure if it is ok for you to use medications.
